US mom denied food stamp, shoots Kids

A tragic story comes out of Texas this week.  Where a young mother, denied access to her means of subsistence for herself and her children, was therefore led to shoot her two children and then herself.

Direct result of the broken distributional economic system we call the US economy.

This is why we advocate against the status quo (at least for me anyway).  Stay invigorated.

I'm sure this woman would have been CEO of a company if only there was a better economy...

Get real! The woman was deranged. Sad story but can we not blame everything on the economy?

I "blame" it on her being denied access to her means of subsistence.

Should she have turned instead to prostitution?

You are stubborn, Anon.

bullshit anonymous, everything hinges on the economy, it surely doesnt get any worse than not being able to provide the basic necessities for your kids.

What I find interesting is fact that she felt she needed to be able to "purchase" food and that without this ability she felt so dehumanized that death was the way out.

Christian Social doctrine has long taught that if begging fails then one is entirely justified in stealing to stave off hunger.

Somehow America is so obsessed with the "property rights" claims of creditors and process of purchase that the very purpose of economic transaction i.e. an efficient means of acquiring material provision is secondary to the process itself.

Have we become so legalistic with regards to property to the point where we are essentially uncivilized and inhuman?

This is the difference between two major ideologies now in conflict. On one side is the group that holds individual liberty and the right to private property as sacred, and the group on the other side holds human rights to be sacred. This is essentially a religious war.

There's a role for "tough love" in our current economic environment but this isn't an appropriate story for that discussion.

Joe,
There is no such thing as "tough love".

I saw a interview some time ago with the contemptible Michelle Bachmann and interestingly she used the same non-scriptural term; "tough love".

It does not exist in scripture; it does not exist. Suggest you steer clear of that idea or concept.

Give people a guaranty of access to their robust means of subsistence and much will take care of itself.

Septeus,
Thanks for those thoughts and it's a good point. This victim, the mother, was correct to focus on the means of subsistence, not simply "subsistence". I guess she just didnt have the strength to go on. Tragic.

Tom,
It's a war alright and score one for the other side with these events.

Resp,

matt I just heard that this happened literally up the road from me on Friday. Although they say it had to do with a relationship break-up, I personally (and totally unscientifically) think/feel that our economic and social and political climate contributes to this stuff. I mean seriously...a man just goes a-wall and shooting randomly in the middle of hollywood right under the CNN building....shit man this is insane.
