Ryan Grim — Austerity War Revs Up: Peter Peterson Drops Millions On New Budget Campaign

Billionaire private equity mogul Peter Peterson is investing millions of dollars in a new Washington-based campaign for austerity, planning to blanket the airwaves after the election to bolster the case for a "grand bargain" in Congress' lame-duck session that would slash Medicare and Social Security spending in exchange for new tax revenue.

My plan for early November:

Nov. 6: Vote to help defeat the Republican Party, the reactionary champions of most of the vile, stupid and backward trend in modern America.

Nov. 7: Go to war against the decadent Democratic Party built by the Clintons, Obama, Rubin, Bowles and the rest.

Time for a new party, with a stridently egalitarian, vigorously progressive, anti-Wall Street agenda.

Things may have to get worse before they get better.

As we've seen in Europe, it seems to take 25% unemployment before people demand change.

Tarpley reporting on a post election austerity push:

(FD: Tarpley's article posted at what I view as an Iranian propaganda site, caveat emptor)

I thought we were past this nonsense, but apparently not.

Looks like Mike and the gang will have to spread the word. I'd love to help if I could. I'm just frustrated that I don't see any of them on mainstream TV.

And I don't want anyone to wage war against the Democrats - it's counterproductive. I believe that i) Obama doesn't want to cut social security, and ii) the party, as well as liberals in America in general, are not idealogues and would be open to our ideas

"Obama doesn't want to cut social security,"

I think you're wrong here.

No, as in, Obama's put it on the table, but I think if he had his way he would have no bar of it

(and anyway, it's politically unpopular for him to fight for it)

Funny. I get the feeling this Grand Bargain is going to happen whether we like it or not.

Obama put it on the table before he even took office.

It looks more and more certain that we will see full-blown austerity here in the US. Then things are going to get really scary.
