Leonid Bershidsky — Ukrainian Study: 82% of Crimeans Fully Support Joining Russia, Have No Love for Kiev

A Ukrainian political scientist started an initiative called "Free Crimea." His study was meant to show that Crimeans were forced against their will to join Russia. The results of his poll revealed something a little bit different.

It still doesn't make the occupation legal. I am sure that 80% of settlers on the West Bank support Israel, so what?

Then the division of Yugoslavia was not legal either, which is a point that Putin has made.

And, of course, the establishment of Israel was not legal either. The ancestral land of the Palestinian people were usurped on a specious theological argument that the God had given the "promised land" to the people of Israel and their descendant in perpetuity. What actually happened is that it was done by the Western powers subsequent to WWII.

Ukraine has never had established borders and the borders have shifted between Poland and Russia over the centuries.

This whole area is riddled with potential border wars owing to the way borders have been drawn irrespective of the people living there.

And in the end, virtually all borders are the result of conquest from the beginning of recorded history.
