Ambrose Evans-Pritchard — Greece is being treated like a hostile occupied state

The Brits contra the Germans. (What else is new?)

This headline is intentionally harsh, since it refers to the Nazi occupation of Greece and is bound to bring up "unpleasant" memories.

Germany has unwittingly brought back threatening memories of the past. Dumb, dumb and dumber. Of course, that may just be the German national spirit manifesting again, which is the real concern. Maybe they just can't help themselves from acting like that, heaven forbid.

This is also worth commenting on:
What we have all seen with great clarity is that the EMU creditor powers can subjugate an unruly state – provided it is small - by shutting down its banking system. We have seen too that a small country has no defences whatsoever. This is monetary power run amok.
The problem the world faces today is the size of states. There are several very large states — the US, Germany, Russia, China, India, Brazil, Iran, etc. — and a great many small states. The small states will have to ally with a geographically proximate large state and the large states will therefore align in blocs.

This is nothing new historically. What is new that is that power relationships are shifting in ways that imply a shift in the world order.

The rest of this century will be about shifting alignment as emerging nations and competing blocs become more powerful economically and militarily.
