Germany will put Greece out of its misery

It's pretty obvious to see the plan now. Germany wants Greece out and we're in the death throes of that happening. Tsipras, however, can't see it through the trees. He and the Greek people are desperately clinging to try to stay "European," but Germany has decided it's time for Greece to go.

In the end the Greeks will owe Germany a debt of gratitude for ending its suffering. As for Tsipras, his political career may well be over and not a moment too soon.

The irony is, Greece will improve and the rest of Europe will be looking on in envy.

BTW...Yanis Varoufakis said that this was always Germany's plan. So why did he try to negotiate with them if he knew this all along? Varoufakis is another loser.

"So why did he try to negotiate with them if he knew this all along?" I guess because he is a democratically elected politician and he knows that the Greeks (at least according to a recent survey) prefer the Euro plus austerity to reverting to the Drachma.

The referendum- a wider and more important survey - suggests the opposite, Ralph. Mike, YV repeatedly explained why he negotiated - is there a more public forum than a NYT Op-Ed? Even though he said long ago that he expected the complete intransigence that actually occurred. I repeatedly endorsed his strategy & excellent reasons here. According to Stathis Kouvelakis in Jacobin, Varoufakis opposed Tsipras's latest & remember, he suggested IOUs just after the referendum. I wasn't happy about his resignation.

Calgacus, also remember that YV did not vote for the proposal - he chose to be absent.

Tsipras may have had no mandate to leave the Euro, but he had less of a mandate to screw over the poor and dispossessed with even more austerity.

The right realise there is no law without enforcement - which is why they have been able to get the ECB to operate outside its legal limits.

The left are far too fond of following rules as written and always seem surprised when others don't.

Statesmen don't follow opinion polls, they attempt to drive opinion. They were given a clean option to leave, and all they needed to do was to take it say that the alternative was unacceptable to Greek democracy, so what they said before was null and void.

"Greece will improve..."

Mike I think we have to first make sure that any new FM there is aware that they have a Mint there in Greece within the nation.... And would start to use it, etc...

The new guy FM that replaced YV has not as yet exhibited such knowledge that they have a Mint there or willingness to run a Greece state currency simultaneously with the EUR... And then they have to be willing to run deficits, etc...

Who knows even if the new guy knows about the Mint (no guaranty...) , they could start a new currency and then vow to run "balanced budgets" themselves.... To "get back at Germany" or wtf... The whole thing is a giant moron fest we are dealing with near sub-humans...

This is like being at a zoo at the chimpanzee cage and there is a big bunch of bananas out of sight behind a rock and we are taking bets on which chimp will find the bananas first....

Rsp,

I have just seen stories saying that Varoufakis wanted to start moves that could pave the path to Grexit, but Tsipras blocked them. So it's not the fault of Varoufakis, but Tsipras. This would explain the resignation.
